Times

The 10th IAPTC&B Congress is being planned as a major international
event. In partnership with academia and industry, it will showcase and
celebrate the science, technology, and products of plant biotechnology.
The 10th IAPTC&B Congress is organized by the U.S. and Canadian
Chapters of the IAPTC&B, the Plant Division of the Society for In Vitro
Biology, and the University of Florida. In addition to the above, early
sponsors of the Congress include Danone Group, Kluwer Academic
Publishers, Monsanto, Nature Biotechnology, Nestlé, Novartis, Paradigm
Genetics, Pioneer, UST/Profigen, Walt Disney World, and Weyerhaeuser.

Times0000,0000,0080About
the Congress Program

An outstanding scientific program is being developed
and will feature plenary lectures, symposia, workshops, and posters on
the latest developments in modern plant biotechnology, from tissue
culture to transgenic plants, resistances to biotic and abiotic
stresses, metabolic engineering, use of plants to improve human
nutrition, phytoremediation, biopharming, food security, public
acceptance of transgenic crops, regulatory issues, field release and
environmental impacts of transgenic crops, role of biotechnology in
international agricultural and economic development, etc. (See list of
topics for plenary lectures and symposia.)

0000,0000,0080Congress Proceedings

The plenary and symposia keynote lectures will be
published in the Congress preoceedings by Kluwer Academic Publishers.

0000,0000,0080Fellowships for Graduate
Students and Post-doctoral Associates

The IAPTC&B will provide a limited number of
fellowships for young scientists, students, post-docs, and participants
from developing countries. Fellowships will be awarded based on the
quality of submitted abstracts. Questions on fellowships and
applications for financial support should be directed to the IAPTC&B
president, Professor Indra K. Vasil (e-mail: ikv@gnv.ifas.ufl.edu), or
to the IAPTC&B secretariat (e-mail: kutley@usthq.com).

0000,0000,0080Exhibiting at the
Congress

The Congress will host a Science and Technology
Exhibit for industry and academic institutions to showcase their
technologies, programs, products, and vision for the future. This is an
opportunity for organizations to meet face-to-face with thousands of
researchers and professionals from around the world who are working in
the field of plant tissue culture and plant biotechnology. The
technology and services provided by exhibitors have facilitated great
strides in the field of plant tissue culture and biotech---------nology
during the past century and will no doubt continue to advance the
science into the new millennium. This is the largest gathering of its
type and meets only once every four years. It is an opportunity not to
be missed!

0000,0000,0080Disney's Coronado Springs
Resort and Orlando, Florida

The Congress will convene at the Coronado Springs
Resort, located in the heart of the Walt Disney World Resort, and
adjacent to EPCOT Center, and Disney's MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom
Park. The resort is close to the main attractions, and offers excellent
amenities. Other nearby recreational activities include a
world-renowned golf course, tennis courts, and art galleries. All these
activities combine to make the area a perfect vacation destination.
Congress attendees can take advantage of special discounted rates
negotiated especially for the IAPTC&B Congress.

Another point of interest will be the Kennedy Space Center's Visitors
Complex. Explore restricted areas near the shuttle launch pads and see
sections of the International Space Station being readied for launch.
Go to other planets with Robot Scouts and see scientists search other
galaxies for signs of life. Marvel at the Saturn V rocket and
experience IMAX films shot by astronauts.

Times_New_RomanTransportation
to Orlando is easy, with more than 44 airlines and 41 charters
providing nonstop service to 35 international cities as well as direct
service to more than 100 cities worldwide. The airport is 24 kilometers
(15 miles) from the resort.
