GM FOODS : AREAS OF CONCERN
Dr. Suman Sahai
Gene Campaign (India)

Genetic Engineering, also called Genetic Modification (GM) or Genetic=20
Transformation is a revolutionary new technology. It allows=20
scientists to change the characteristics of living organisms by=20
transferring genes from one organism , across species barriers, to=20
another , to create a genetically modified organism (GMO). Genetic=20
modification technology can transfer genes between organisms that can=20
not breed in nature. Thus genes from humans have been put into mice,=20
from fish into tomatoes and from bacteria into cotton producing=20
transgenic organisms.
